This is a summary of college only using two pictures; expensive as hell.

That’s my Sociology “book”. In fact what it is is a piece of paper with codes written on it to allow me to access an electronic version of a book. I was told by my professor that I could not buy any other paperback version, or use another code, so I was left with no option other than buying a piece of paper for over $200. Best part about all this is my professor wrote the books; there’s something hilariously sadistic about that. So I pretty much doled out $200 for a current edition of an online textbook that is no different than an older, paperback edition of the same book for $5; yeah, I checked. My mistake for listening to my professor.

God doesn’t want you to go through life constantly struggling, always burdened down, or always fighting against something. Yes, we know that trials and tribulations will come in this life. There may be seasons that are more difficult than others; but, we can’t just settle where we are and accept that it’s always going to be this way. Just like God led the Israelites into the Promised Land, He wants to lead you to a good land with no shortage and no lack. He wants to cause you to remain in His provision and blessing.

The key is that when difficulty comes, instead of focusing on where you are, instead of dwelling on how things won’t work, turn your focus toward Him. Lift up your eyes to heaven. Cast your cares on the Lord. Don’t let the heaviness of the world drag you down. Put your faith and hope in Him knowing that He has good things in store for your future. Keep praying, keep believing and keep trusting because His yoke is easy, His burden is light, and He’s leading you into your promised land!

My name is Ela. I am seventeen years old. I am not Muslim, but my friend told me about her friend being discriminated against for wearing a hijab. So I decided to see the discrimination firsthand to get a better understanding of what Muslim women go through.

My friend and I pinned scarves around our heads, and then we went to the mall. Normally, vendors try to get us to buy things and ask us to sample a snack. Clerks usually ask us if we need help, tell us about sales, and smile at us. Not today. People, including vendors, clerks, and other shoppers, wouldn’t look at us. They didn’t talk to us. They acted like we didn’t exist. They didn’t want to be caught staring at us, so they didn’t look at all.

And then, in one store, a girl (who looked about four years old) asked her mom if my friend and I were terrorists. She wasn’t trying to be mean or anything. I don’t even think she could have grasped the idea of prejudice. However, her mother’s response is one I can never forgive or forget. The mother hushed her child, glared at me, and then took her daughter by the hand and led her out of the store.

All that because I put a scarf on my head. Just like that, a mother taught her little girl that being Muslim was evil. It didn’t matter that I was a nice person. All that mattered was that I looked different. That little girl may grow up and teach her children the same thing.

This experiment gave me a huge wakeup call. It lasted for only a few hours, so I can’t even begin to imagine how much prejudice Muslim girls go through every day. It reminded me of something that many people know but rarely remember: the women in hijabs are people, just like all those women out there who aren’t Muslim.

People of Tumblr, please help me spread this message. Treat Muslims, Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Pagans, Taoists, etc., exactly the way you want to be treated, regardless of what they’re wearing or not wearing, no exceptions. Reblog this. Tell your friends. I don’t know that the world will ever totally wipe out prejudice, but we can try, one blog at a time.

Have you ever been to a sporting event where some of the fans were so pumped about their team that they covered themselves in paint for their school color? It’s an expression of the extreme fandom. They are saying in no uncertain terms, “I am with THIS team! WOOO!!”

Well, baptism is kinda like that. That word, ‘baptize’ is a Greek word. We didn’t translate it, we just moved it over and started saying it. It’s a word that means to ‘dunk down’ or ‘immerse.’ People used that word when they would dye cloth a different color. In the same way, people get dunked down in the water as a way to say, “I’m with Jesus! I’m on His team!” It’s like getting painted up.

Baptism doesn’t save you and it doesn’t mean you’re forgiven for your sins. When you believed in Jesus, you were instantly and eternally forgiven and completely saved forever. Baptism is just your way of telling the world, “I’m team Jesus now.” Baptism doesn’t give you anything and it doesn’t change your spiritual status in any way, but the Lord does want us to do it. I don’t really know why, but then again, I hardly ever know why He wants me to do the stuff He wants me to do.

Baptism is supposed to be your decision. In other words, you need to be old enough and able to decide to do it. When you were little and your mom dressed you up in the home team’s colors, you didn’t have any say in that. You weren’t really a fan yet. When you were old enough to paint up, all that changed. Madeleine, you love Jesus. That’s obvious. This is just your chance to shout it from the rooftops.
